Lisa Bullock

Senior Research Officer

Carleton University

Lisa Bullock has nearly 20 years of experience in the post-secondary advancement sector as well as several years in university research administration. In her current role as Senior Research Officer, she conducts prospect research both actively and proactively, oversees news gathering and dissemination from the research team, and presently represents the team on a department working group looking at pipelines, prospects, and portfolios. She holds a BAHon from the University of Windsor, an MA from the University of Southampton, and an MA from Carleton University. She has served as a CCAE Prix d’Excellence judge, as a mentor with APRA Canada, and has presented with her colleagues at both APRA Canada and CCAE on a significant pipeline management project that later became an article in the Journal of Education Advancement & Marketing. She has also for several years been invited to guest lecture with her Assistant Director for a course in the Masters of Philanthropy and Non-Profit Leadership (MPNL) program at Carleton on the topic of prospect research in the non-profit setting. She is also a specialist and passionate advocate for the use of wikis (or knowledge transfers) because of their profound organizational effectiveness.

Dawn Cattoor

Manager, Pipeline Development

University of Calgary

Dawn Cattoor is Manager, Pipeline Development at the University of Calgary, where she leads strategy and analysis to strengthen prospect management and fundraising pipelines. With a focus on data-informed decision-making, Dawn works closely with the advancement team to develop and provide prospect pipeline health metrics that support portfolio optimization, forecasting, and sustainable fundraising growth. She brings a practical, metrics-driven perspective to pipeline management, translating complex data into actionable insights for development leaders and frontline fundraisers. Dawn has seven years of experience in prospect management at the University of Calgary and brings a total of nine years of experience across fundraising roles in grants, individual and corporate philanthropy, and prospect management within both non-profit and post-secondary environments. In recognition of her contributions to the advancement profession, she was named the CASE VIII 2023 Rising Star in Advancement Services award winner. She has a master's degree in Applied Economics (Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium) and a certificate in Business Intelligence and Analytics from Continued Education at the University of Calgary.

Grace De Jong

Assistant Director of Prospect Management

Grace joined the University of St. Thomas as Assistant Director of Prospect Management in October of 2023. Prior to this she was the Prospect Research Officer at St. Catherine University. She has a BA in Art History from the University of Minnesota and has worked in development since the beginning of 2020. She serves as Treasurer for Apra-MN.

Al Ham

Director of Participation and Direct Response Annual Giving

The George Washington University

Al currently leads a team of annual giving professionals at The George Washington University (GW), who are responsible for providing strategic support to campus partners and overseeing all university-wide direct response annual giving efforts.

Al is a graduate of Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, who stayed a few extra years for a degree in Annual Giving and Alumni Relations.

After leaving Wisconsin, he joined the University of Chicago, supporting the Medical Center, Medical School, and Division of the Biological Sciences in annual giving and grateful patient direct response.

Immediately prior to joining GW, Al served as a Consulting Associate at the philanthropic management consulting firm GG+A, helping mission-driven non-profits in higher education and healthcare raise their sights and achieve audacious goals.

Emma Hinke

Mike Lair

Mike Lair is the Sr. Director of Data Strategy & Analytics at Phoenix Children's Foundation, where he focuses on building the data and technology infrastructure that supports the organization's fundraising efforts. His work is centered on how data and technology can be leveraged to innovate the way nonprofits fundraise.

His twenty years in the nonprofit sector — across Annual and Midlevel Giving, Direct Response, Reporting & Analytics, and Data Strategy — keeps him grounded in the practical realities of fundraising and shapes how he approaches applying data and technology to the work.

Emily Maple

Director of Prospect Management and Research

University of St. Thomas

Emily Maple is the Director of Prospect Management and Research at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She currently serves on the Apra International Education and Professional Development Committee and has served on the Membership and Conference Planning committees in years past. Emily was previously Manager of Prospect Development at Greater Twin Cities United Way. She received her M.A. in Art History from the University of Toronto, and a B.A. in English and Art History from the University of Minnesota.

Kate Sutterfield

Director of Research

Kate Sutterfield is the Director of Research on the Prospect Development Decision Support team at the University of Chicago, where she manages a group of seven individuals who support the fundraising teams within the Central Operating Unit by using data, analysis, AI, and specialized information systems to deliver insights. Her team connects real-world trends to strategic outcomes, driving pool development through discovery work and risk assessments that can inform engagement strategies.

Kate has worked in the prospect research field for 14 years, including nine years in people management. Prior to joining UChicago, she held roles at the University of Arkansas, the Air Force Academy Foundation, and the University of Illinois Foundation.

Kevin Vaughn

Research Analyst, Corporate and Foundation Relations

University of Notre Dame

Kevin Vaughn is a Research Analyst in the Department of Development at the University of Notre Dame, where he specializes in prospect research and strategy for the Corporate and Foundation Relations team. He also plays a key role in developing due diligence policies and procedures in collaboration with other university departments. Prior to joining Development, Kevin held administrative roles in graduate programs across the humanities and global affairs. Alongside his expertise in higher education, he holds advanced degrees in music performance.
